Women in the Uruguayan dairy
Women in the Uruguayan dairy
According to the document entitled “Women in the Uruguayan dairy”, prepared by the National Milk Institute (Inale), fewer women than men participate in the dairy workforce in the Uruguayan dairy.
But this gender gap is not exclusive to dairy farms.
The National Gender Plan in Agricultural Policies of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), according to a study by UN Women, indicates that in In rural areas of Uruguay, women have less access to jobs and a lower weekly workload than men. Despite the context, in Campo Longley there has always been a rule closely monitored by the high levels of the hierarchy, which ensures that we are all capable of acting in any position on the farm without gender gaps.
60% of our direct workforce is women and we believe that in terms of team work, diversity is an advantage because talent has no gender. Different points of view always enrich and diversity is key to that.
We believe in complements. Be it gender, age, education, skills and experiences. And we know, from our own experience, that it is the most productive path for business and for society!
Climate change
Climate change
In Uruguay, the drought situation continues to worsen and its effects are not restricted to the countryside. Last week there was an announcement that the non-essential use of drinking water is prohibited in Montevideo and other areas of the country.
Climate changes are hardly noticeable in different parts of the 🌎. In Australia, where Longley Heritage group has its industrial plant (www.richmonddairies.com.au), the australians are suffering historical floods considered “once every 100 years”.
#Uruguay and #Australia are in the same middle of the globe, in the southern hemisphere. And in addition to sharing the passion and excellence in the dairy, we share its challenges.
Let’s hope we can all overcome this situation together and as soon as possible 💪🏻
Conscious use of agrochemicals
Conscious use of agrochemicals
The search for the conscious use of agrochemicals is something very present in our routine in Campo Longley. As a result of that concern, since 2019 we have 29% of our productive hectares under organic practices.
And how do we manage the other areas? How do we ground conscious use?
With an integrated pest management plan that aims to minimize the use of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers.
And what does that plan consist of?
• Soil analysis
• Diversification of species
• Diversification of planting dates
• Animal (grazing), mechanical (rotary) and natural (rain) control
• Crop rotation
• Weekly tours
• Evaluation of the scale of damage
• Always prioritize the use of green band phytosanitary products
All these measures help us achieve sustainable development in our dairy and have a direct impact on the environment, on society and on the profitability of our business.
The 📷 was taken yesterday in the sorghum paddock. We consider that on the damage scale it is at level 0-1: No presence of damage or few leaves with lesions. The decision was to wait.
External audit for Unilever
External audit for Unilever
Last Thursday we had a second external audit of 2022 in Campo Longley. In this instance, CONAPROLE recommended our dairy for the audit required by one of its most important clients in Uruguay, Unilever
A Sustainability Auditor from Control Union Argentina spent the day at our facilities. Reviewing processes, protocols, facilities and records. We are happy to share that we were APPROVED with no mandatory recommendations.
From our headquarters in England, we want to congratulate the entire Campo Longley team for this accomplishment!
New Zealand student exchange
New Zealand student exchange
Last week we welcomed a student from New Zealand, Ruby Rogers, who will work with us for three months.
Ruby studies Agriculture at Lincoln University (NZ) and has a degree in Naturopathy from Torrens University Australia.
The opportunity to exchange knowledge is one of the pillars of Campo Longley.
Training on "Sustainable milk production"
Training on "Sustainable milk production"
This week we had a visit of Conaprole for a training on “Sustainable milk production” where we reinforced knowledge about the axes of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT:
🌱 Environment (biodiversity, soil, water, forests, air)
👨👩👧👧 Society (employees, customers and communities)
💲Economy (profitability and business growth)
The focus of the training was:
✅Safe use of agrochemicals
✅Regulation of the machine
✅Safety at work
✅Solid waste management
✅Management and care of soil and water
✅Biodiversity
Topics that transcend dairy but are so present in our routine.
Thank you very much Yoana D. Florencia P. and Diego Rodriguez!
Supporting local entrepeneurs
Supporting local entrepeneurs
How nice when companies choose proposals from local entrepreneurs for their gifts.
Longley Heritage Group opted for a 100% reusable bag of cotton and artisanal chocolates of flavors representative of the countries in which they are present. ( Autoctonario )
